Overdue Fees & Replacement Rates

Loan Type Fine Rates:

  • Regular: No Charge
  • Recalls: $2.50/day, $25 max per item
  • Reserves: $1/hour, $25 max per item
  • A replacement bill is created 30 days after the due date if an item has not been renewed or returned.

Replacement Fees:

  • Book: $80
  • DVD: $25
  • Conference Proceedings: $100
  • Journals: $100
  • Popular: $25

Damage Fee:

  • Most items: $20 damage fee
  • This amount may be more if an item is of greater value; other items priced individually.
  • If a damaged item requires removal from the library’s collection, the borrower will be billed for the replacement cost.

Student Borrowing

  • Currently enrolled graduate and undergraduate students may borrow items.
  • BuzzCards* serve as library cards. The privilege of borrowing is a personal one and may not be transferred.
    *The library should be notified immediately if a borrower’s BuzzCard is lost or stolen.
  • There is no limit to the number of regular items borrowed. Special items such as Reserves may have limits.
  • The loan period for Graduate and Undergraduate Students is 120 days with a maximum renewal period of 365 days, unless recalled (see below for information).
  • Various categories of special materials, such as videos or reserve items, may be loaned for shorter periods of time such as hours and days. Check with librarians for various loan periods.
  • All available circulating materials requested through the library catalog and/or ILLiad are available for pickup at the Library Services Desk. Books not picked up within a specified period will be returned to the shelf or made available for the next patron who placed a request on it.
  • Prompt return of material is the personal responsibility of the individual to whom it is loaned.
  • Failure to receive a notice does not absolve the borrower of the responsibility to renew or return the item to the library in a timely manner.
  • All items are subject to recall. The borrower is guaranteed 21 total days with items. Recalled items should be returned to the Library Services Desk on or before the “New Due Date.”
  • The borrower is responsible for notifying the library immediately if library material is damaged, missing or lost.
  • A patron’s account will be blocked and borrowing privileges will be suspended if the borrower:
    • owes the library $25 or more in fines or fees
    • fails to return an Interlibrary Loan item in a timely fashion
    • fails to respond to recall requests in a timely fashion

Faculty & Staff Borrowing

  • All items are subject to recall. The borrower is guaranteed 21 total days with items. Recalled items should be returned to the Library Services Desk on or before the “New Due Date.”
  • The borrower is responsible for notifying the library immediately if library material is damaged, missing or lost.
  • A patron’s account will be blocked and borrowing privileges will be suspended if the borrower:
    • owes the library $25 or more in fines or fees
    • fails to respond to recall requests in a timely fashion
    • fails to return and Interlibrary Loan item in a timely fashion
  • Interlibrary Loan and GIL Express items may be delivered and returned through LENDS.

Alumni Borrowing

  • Photo identification is required to borrow items. The privilege of borrowing is a personal one and may not be transferred.
  • There is no limit to the number of regular items borrowed. Special items such as Reserves may have limits.
  • The loan period is 28 days with a maximum renewal period of 90 days.
  • Alumni may not borrow some specialty items such as cameras and camcorders.
  • Various categories of special materials, such as videos or reserve items, may be loaned for shorter periods of time such as hours and days. Check with librarians for various loan periods.
  • All available items requested through the library catalog are available for pickup at the Library Services Desk. Books not picked up within a specified period will be returned to the shelf or made available for the next patron who placed a request on it.

Visiting Scholar Borrowing

  • In order to establish borrowing Policies visiting scholars should have their sponsoring faculty member (or other faculty member as authorized by your department) complete the: Application for Library Access form.
  • Policies do not exceed one semester.
  • A BuzzCard is required to establish Policies. The privilege of borrowing is a personal one and may not be transferred.
    *The library should be notified immediately if a borrower’s BuzzCard is lost or stolen.
  • There is no limit to the number of regular items borrowed. Special items such as reserves may have limits.
  • The loan period for Visiting Scholars is 120 days with a maximum renewal period not to exceed one semester.
  • Due dates can be shortened for recalls (for more information, see below).
  • Various categories of special materials, such as videos or reserve items, may be loaned for shorter periods of time such as hours and days. Check with librarians for various loan periods.
  • All available circulating materials (books, CDs, VHS tapes, etc.) requested through the library catalog and/or ILLiad are delivered daily by the LENDS van. Drop-off / pick-up points are located in each academic department and the GTRI labs. This service delivers materials from the Georgia Tech Library’s collection to current GT faculty and staff.  Items will typically arrive within two to three working days.  There is no charge for this service.
  • Prompt return of material is the personal responsibility of the individual to whom it is loaned.
  • Failure to receive a notice does not absolve the borrower of the responsibility to renew or return the item to the library in a timely manner.

Visitors

Visitors are welcome to view Georgia Tech items in the Library. If a visitor would like to view a book that is stored at the Library Service Center, they will need to contact our Public Services Department, who will request the book and let the visitor know when it is available. Visitors may request to view only Georgia Tech books. If a visitor would like to view a book that belongs to Emory or another University System of Georgia school, they will need to contact that school's library. Visitors do not have borrowing privileges.

  • family of a Faculty member
  • a student of Intensive English Program at Georgia Tech’s Language Institute, or

Borrow from other Libraries

Current Georgia Tech students, faculty, and staff may borrow from the Library Service Center collection by either visiting the LSC in person or placing a request through the library catalog for delivery to campus. Current students, faculty, and staff may also use their Buzzcard to borrow from Emory’s Woodruff Library and any library in the University System of Georgia in person.
