A replacement bill for the actual replacement cost of the item is created 30 days after the due date if an item has not been renewed or returned.
When necessary, the replacement cost of the damaged item will be charged. Borrowers are responsible for the replacement cost of lost or damaged Georgia Tech Library materials. Replacement cost is based on the Library’s original purchase price. If the original purchase price is unavailable, the Library will use the current cost of obtaining a comparable replacement.
Unreplaceable item:
An item is considered unreplaceable when it is more than 50 years old, fewer than 50 holdings are reported in OCLC WorldCat, and Library staff cannot locate a replacement copy in comparable condition through normal commercial channels. For items that cannot be replaced with an identical copy, a charge of $150 will be levied. The $150 replacement charge represents a standardized replacement value that allows the Library to acquire a comparable item that restores, as reasonably as possible, the collection value lost when the original item is not returned.
