Tech Library faculty awarded at state conference
Manning received GLA’s Bob Richardson Memorial Award, which recognizes significant contributions to the Association through unselfish, dedicated service to the organization.
Thompson received the Society of Georgia Archivists (SGA) Fellows Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to archives and archivists in the state.
“These awards make clear what we’ve known for some time, that Karen and Jody are top-tier professionals who give their time and energy every day to ensuring our students, faculty, staff and community are well-served by the Georgia Tech Library,” said Dean Leslie Sharp. “I cannot think of two more deserving individuals.”
Manning, who counts decades of service to the Library, serves as the Library’s Campus Diversity Liaison, working within a network of peer positions across the University and colleagues for strategic planning of engagement and inclusion initiatives, programs, and practices.
Thompson, who also serves as head of the Records Management & Digital Curation department and the Library’s Preservation Manager, promotes research and instruction through archival collections relating to the academic curriculum.
The Bob Richardson Memorial Award was established by the Executive Board of GLA in 1999 in recognition of Bob Richardson’s dedicated service to the Association. It honors those who have given outstanding service to the Association.
The SGA Fellows Award was established in 2009. It recognizes members based on:
- Involvement and work in SGA;
- Education, leadership, advocacy and/or scholarly activities;
- Impact of the nominee’s work on the Georgia archival community; and
- Demonstrated and enduring commitment to cultivating diverse and inclusive archival collections and/or communities.
