Demystifying GTRI: Illuminating the Groundbreaking Research at the Georgia Tech Research Institute

Join the Georgia Tech Library Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Scholars Event Theater, located on the first floor of Price Gilbert, for Demystifying GTRI: Illuminating the Groundbreaking Research at the Georgia Tech Research Institute.

This event offers a unique platform for researchers at GTRI to discuss both past and current projects happening at GTRI with the Georgia Tech community. The aim is to enlighten the Georgia Tech community about the diverse range of projects with which GTRI is involved and to create more transparency between GTRI and the Georgia Tech community.

 
SPEAKERS
 

Comas Haynes
Comas Lamar Haynes is a faculty member of the Georgia Tech Research Institute and former Joint Faculty Appointee of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He is an inaugural member of the Department of Energy Industrial Technology Innovation Advisory Committee (ITIAC), and he leads the Hydrogen Initiative component of Georgia Tech’s Strategic Energy Institute, as well as the DoE-funded (Southeastern) Industrial Training and Assessment Centers (ITACs) Center of Excellence. 

His research includes modeling steady state and transient behavior of advanced energy systems, inclusive of their thermal management, and the characterization and optimization of novel cycles. He has advised numerous graduate and undergraduate research assistants, authored peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, and has received multi-agency funding for energy systems analysis and development. Sponsor examples include the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy and NASA. 

 

Jon Duke, MD MS
Dr. Jon Duke is Director of the Health Emerging and Advanced Technologies Division at the Georgia Tech Research Institute and Principal Research Scientist in the Georgia Tech College of Computing. Dr. Duke has led over $30 million in funded research for industry, government, and foundation partners. 

His research focuses on advancing techniques for integrating, analyzing, and communicating complex health data with applications spanning research, quality, public health, and clinical domains. Dr. Duke was a founding member of the OHDSI consortium, an open-source international health data analytics collaborative now in over 20 countries. 

 

David Ediger
David Ediger is a Principal Research Engineer and leads High Performance Computing at the Georgia Tech Research Institute.  The group is responsible for collaborating with and providing research computing infrastructure for sponsored projects at GTRI.  During the past eleven years,

 David has led projects in big data analytics, cybersecurity, and systems engineering.  He is a graduate of Georgia Tech and the George Washington University.

 

Megan Denham
Megan Denham is a Senior Research Associate in GTRI’s Health Emerging and Advanced Technology Division (HEAT-D). She also has a joint appointment with the Georgia Tech Center for Advanced Communications Policy. Ms. Denham’s core research interests include improving healthcare systems by providing safer, more efficient patient-centered care, supporting healthcare paradigm shift to virtual care, and utilizing data analytics to target and intervene with population health disparities.

Ms. Denham’s current projects include the Georgia All-Payer Claims Database (APCD), which seeks to improve the transparency of cost and quality of health and healthcare in the state of Georgia, reduce disparities in care, and make data safely and securely available. Ms. Denham has led multiple projects in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and is currently the Project Director for the GPSSample App, a mobile application to facilitate rapid statistical sampling and navigation, with offline mapping and file sharing capabilities.
