Art-o-mat machines are repurposed and redesigned cigarette vending machines that dispense tiny artwork instead of cigarette boxes. Based out of North Carolina, artist Clark Whittington conceptualized this idea in the late 90s, and the initiative has grown since then. There are currently over 200 machines worldwide and approximately 400 artists contributing to the project. Each Art-o-mat machine is themed and unique. Georgia Tech selected a space and science-themed machine appealing to the disciplines on a STEM campus. Each unique art piece sells for $5.00, and you can purchase tokens for the machine online.
