Statement on Access to Electronic Resources
Databases and electronic journals are provided for academic research by current authorized Georgia Tech faculty, students and staff only. The use of each online service is governed by copyright law and by the terms of the license between Georgia Tech and the publisher.
Georgia Tech is different from many other campuses because we have only registered the IP ranges for the Library buildings and our proxy server (as opposed to the entire campus) with our electronic resource vendors. At one time we did have the entire campus's range registered, which we agree is much easier for faculty. We had to change this, unfortunately, due to a number of abuses by Georgia Tech users. At the recommendation of the Georgia Tech Information Security Center, we put restrictions in place that would require that everyone go through our proxy server. Please refer to the Library’s Policy for Use of Online Services [see above] for more detail about the terms of authorized use. We regret the inconvenience to our faculty and students; however, we are committed to making these resources available without interruption by honoring the license agreements with the vendors.
- For access to electronic journals, the option we recommend is accessing them through the Library's eJournals page on our website at http://sfx.galib.uga.edu/sfx_git1/az. Our link resolver will ensure that you have the most current full text options and will pass you through the proxy server, which will allow the publishers' sites to recognize you as a legitimate Georgia Tech user.
- This strategy works for databases as well: http://www.library.gatech.edu/search/databases.php
- You may also want to check out our web localizer which will help you access library resources from external websites: http://www.library.gatech.edu/search/web_localizer.php
- Another option is to use the proxy prefix with the publishers' direct links. Just add http://www.library.gatech.edu:2048/login?url= to the beginning of the publisher’s URL.
