  Tips & Tricks: Illustrator CS5
Location: Library Homer Rice Center (2 East)

Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editing tool, commonly used by graphic designers.

In this beginning workshop we will familiarize you with the interface and introduce you to handy features/tools within the package, as we create a basic shapes, for logos or labels.

Exercises may include things like: typing on a path, extrude and bevel, working with text, blending, scaling, adjusting gradients, live trace and experimenting with the new shape builder tool. Illustrator is a must have in your arsenal of software for professional looking results. The class is held in a Mac classroom, so familiarity with a Mac environment is helpful, but not necessary. PC virtual environment also available.

Catherine Murray-Rust, Vice Provost for Learning Excellence and Dean of Libraries, will provide updates on the Library Renewal Project, a multi-year plan to transform the Georgia Tech Library's spaces and services.

  • The creation of a shared collection between Georgia Tech and Emory University
  • New and improved services at the Library Service Center, a facility which will house a majority of the library's paper and microfilm collection
  • Plans and timeline for renovating the library's facilities
  • Exciting new spaces and services the renewed library will offer for faculty and students

  Data Management Planning Workshop

Are you interested in managing, sharing, or preserving your research data? Are you required by a funding agency, such as the NSF or NIH, to include a data management or sharing plan in your grant proposal? Are you interested in learning more about what services are offered at Georgia Tech to help support your research data needs?

Please attend the Data Management Planning workshop to learn about the various requirements of funding agencies, how to comply with these requirements, and how to take advantage of resources already offered by the Georgia Tech Library.  In addition to examining data management plan requirements, this workshop will also cover how to use the DMPTool, a web application designed to walk researchers step-by-step through data management planning. Classes are free and open, and you are welcome to stop in, but priority is given to those who are registered.

Adobe Photoshop is a graphics/image editing program included in the Adobe Creative Suite. The software is often used by graphic artists, print designers, visual communicators,and regular people like you.

Pictures in things such as posters, books, magazines,and brochures are often created or edited in Photoshop.

In these workshops we will experiment with variety of photoshop tools and techniques covering things such as : Liquify, Spot healing, blending images using layer masks, examples of portrait retouching, adjusting image brightness/contrast and creating special effects.
